eContent is a content management system, used to maintain information on services, licences, codes of practice and grant opportunities.
It is currently used to manage content for the Business Licence Information System in South Australia and the Northern Territory (at both a state and local government level), and the Grants Register in South Australia (all three levels of government and private philanthropic organisations). More than 3500 resources are currently maintained in eContent.
The site, launched in May 2000, provides authors with a simple interface to create and update their information, as well as a hierarchy of coordinators to control its release to target audiences.
Each user has a login and password that shows only those resources they maintain, whilst allowing sharing of common resources (eg contact details) across an agency.
To Do lists provide reminders for each author about resources needing verification, the status of requests for publication and messages from other team members. Email reminders are sent when new items are added to To Do lists or when an author has not responded to an issue. Coordinators are also notified of their authors actions.
eContent also manages application forms and associated documents, allowing the online construction of PDF documents. There are currently more than 2500 PDF application forms maintained in eContent.
Information from eContent is output in a standard XML format, and is AGLS metadata compliant. The XML is shared with other sites including Bizgate and the BLIS. Individual agencies are also using this information to maintain their own Web sites.
eContent is hosted through one of our servers at Networking Tasmania.
eContent demonstrates our ability to develop systems which incorporate content management principles, and support an ongoing content maintenance strategy. It also shows our experience in dealing with government agencies - some 650 agencies with 450 authors from all three levels of government have information managed in eContent.
