The WorkCover Tasmania Web site aims to support the agency in minimising workplace injury and ensuring safe and healthy workplaces throughout Tasmania.

The site, launched during Workplace Safe Week 2002, focuses on promoting injury prevention and effective injury management.

The project aimed to deliver a way for staff to maintain their own content on the Web site. A flexible multi-level approval hierarchy ensures that all content is reviewed by the appropriate managers before publication.

eDevelop, a Web based content management and publication system, is used to collect and maintain the material provided on the site, helping ensure that the site delivers consistent, concise and complete information.

The site features a subscription facility, allowing users to register their areas of interest and receive an email when updates and additions are made. This helps WorkCover ensure that clients are aware of changes to legislation, policy and procedures that affect their workplace.

The site also delivers password-protected information for specific professional groups (eg insurance, health). Once users have logged in, they are able to search and subscribe to both public and private material using a single interface.

As part of the process of creating the site, Human Solutions advised WorkCover on content management and Web site publishing issues, including the Tasmanian Government Web Publishing Standards (GWPS, formerly known as GIPS) and the Australian Government Locator Service (AGLS) metadata standard.

We also assisted in the migration of content from the existing Workplace Standards Authority site to both the WorkCover Tasmania and Workplace Standards Tasmania Web sites, helping the agency consult with stakeholders to ensure that the site met their needs.

Leigh Carmichael Design produced the graphic design of the site, complementing the existing printed material used by WorkCover Tasmania.

The WorkCover Tasmania project demonstrates our ability to:

• develop systems which incorporate content management principles, and support an ongoing content maintenance strategy
• focus on delivering Web sites which provide high levels of usability and accessibility, exceeding best practice standards set by industry and government
• understand the needs of multiple stakeholders, and incorporate their requirements into a single system
• provide customised email delivery of information to subscribers
